THE STANFORD BRUT STORY

Stanford Brut traces back to Leland Stanford, the railroad magnate and pioneering winemaker who believed California’s soil and climate could rival the world’s best. In 1869, he and his brother Josiah planted vines at Warm Springs, and by the 1880s their holdings had grown to over 3,500 acres at Vina Ranch, near Sacramento. Stanford died in 1893 before his winemaking vision was fully realized, and the property fell into disuse and disrepair.

In 1946, the Weibel family revived the original vineyard lands, and in the mid-1950s created their signature Sparkling Brut at their winery on Stanford Avenue. When Fred Weibel Jr. retired in 2023, the winery and brand were sold to Rack & Riddle. Today, we’re proud to carry the story forward with our NEW Méthode Champenoise Brut and Alcohol-Removed Brut, crafted with the same care and tradition that built this brand.

Nearly a century since its start, Stanford Brut remains what it’s always been: accessible, celebratory, and rooted in California’s sparkling wine heritage.
